The Sidney Morning Herald - The Raid - Ed Gibbs - March 18, 2012 - CRITIC'S RATING 9/10 - Rating: 45 out of 5 stars - Micro-budget it may be, but there's nothing low-fi about this jaw-dropping martial-arts actioner written and directed by Welshman Gareth Evans.
Set and shot inside a seedy, rundown tower block in Jakarta, the film follows a SWAT team of rookies led by crack commander Jaka (real-life judo champion Taslim) ordered to take down a notorious drug lord named Tama (Sahetapy), whose all-seeing CCTV eye governs every inch of the building.
The police team - which has never gone near the no-go zone, such is its bad rep - finds its mission swiftly scuppered by Tama, whose penchant for extreme violence extends to dispensing with unwanted guests. Holed up on the top floor, he dispatches a string of accomplices, who make light of their duties as one officer after another goes down in a stunning display of virtuoso stunts (and camerawork).http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif
