Makan bajamba is one of Minangkabau tradition in West Sumatra, which is held in tradition ceremony, tradition festival, and other important rendezvous. Literally, Makan Bajamba in Minangkabau has a good philosophy ; it brings a sense of togetherness without seeing the status of its people. Makan Bajamba is the procession of dining together in one tray, which is begins with the traditional Minangkabau proverb by leader (Datuak).
The uniquness of Makan Bajamba procession can we see from the peculiarty of food that they served which come from various ethnic who live in Sawahlunto. Food that has been laid out in tray, were taken by placing tray above the head and walk hand in hand. This event opened with the performance of multicultural arts from various art groups.
In Sawahlunto town, Makan Bajamba has becomes an annual event in celebrating the anniversary of this toen which is fall on first December each years. This event has been one of West Sumatra and domestic and foreign tourist. In 2006, this event received an award from MURI (Indonesian Museum of World Records) for category the longest and the most participant which is followed by 16,123 people from 10 villages, 37 sub-districts, 4 districs, 65 elementary school, 8 senior high school and department/agencies.
